Harvested Rain Water

We have also harvested rain water from the roof by plumbing in a 5,000 litrerain water tank, buried in the front garden, to water the garden and top up the pool, and we aim to ensure the watering of the garden and plants is entirely fed by the rain tanks we have installed.
There is a well in the back courtyard which we have preserved. Demolishing the old well body, we capped the well off with a cover, and while we were encouraged to fill it in by most who came to the house, we kept it as a source of water for the plants and frankly because it is so charming and part of the house’ history. The well will also water the back garden and one day we will install a filter and use it as drinking water if it is up to standards. Additionally, we use a septic tank system, LED light bulbs everywhere, and have had all our verandah furniture hand made to Jamie’s designs out of bamboo. Sadly 7 trees had to be felled in the reshaping of the house and building of the swimming pool, so we have planted 7 more trees for each felled in their place!
