Plastic and Recycling

Jamie and I have an increasingly militant view of plastic, we sponsor our local beach and ensure its cleaned regularly of the plastic flotsam that pollutes the seas, you can only imagine how much plastic washes up on the small stretch of 100 m of beach, this is cleaned by us and our staff regularly, and we either dispose of the plastic with our normal rubbish or include it in our recycling.
We believe that every plastic bag or straw we remove from the ocean is saving marine lives, and this matters to us as much as anything. We endeavor to recycle everything we can in Sri Lanka’s new but burgeoning recycling facilities. We aim to minimize the amount of disposable single use plastic we use at the house in as many small ways as we can. Our house Manager Jazmin shares this view and has educated us and the staff not to use plastic bags at all for the shopping for the house, and all our soda bottles and water bottles are now either glass or refillable plastic bottles.
If our guests would like to be involved we have 4 little picker uppers available, to go and pick litter on the beach or around the lanes around the house, if you would like to do your bit! Just ask one of the staff for a bag and one of our claspers and you can pick little in style without getting your hands too dirty or even bending down!
